On 6th October 2021 Celtic Credit Union received the most devastating news that our Chief Accountant, Les Hughes, had passed away suddenly after a short illness.

Les was an accountant for over 50 years. He became a Chartered Certified Accountant in the early 1970s and within 10 years achieved his Fellowship (FCCA) qualification. He had extensive experience working in a senior capacity at companies Including Alcoa, Wall Colmonoy and Hyder Consulting. He joined Neath Credit Union, as it was then called, on 14th November 2006 and was responsible for setting up all our accounting systems and procedures – he, and they, became the financial backbone of our Credit Union. Throughout the last fifteen years he has ensured that Celtic Credit Union maintained scrupulously accurate accounting practices and was key in the development of CCU into the successful company that it has become today.

Les was more than a colleague. He was a highly respected and dedicated member of our credit union family, and a very dear friend. A true gentleman. He will be very much missed by us all.
