Virtual AGM Meeting March 4th 2021

Our first virtual AGM took place online on Thursday 4th March at 5.00pm
At this meeting the Chief Executive was able to report positively on the activities of Celtic Credit Union over the last 12 months trading period.  It had been a successful year despite the challenges caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic and ongoing national lockdowns. Celtic Credit Union, despite these very difficult circumstances, had managed to keep all offices open and maintained full membership services.
In addition, The Chief Executive reported on the decision to vary the Annual Membership contribution, and the consequent improvements that this would allow to membership services planned for the coming year.
Celtic Credit Union remains in a strong financial position, and therefore the meeting was able to approve the declaration of a dividend of 0.25% to be paid to members by 31st March 2021.
Other matters which were approved by the membership were:
  • Election of the Board of Directors

“Loan sharks are increasingly using social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, to advertise their illegal loans and target potential victims. They also use social media community groups and local selling pages,” Sarah Smith of Wales Illegal Money Lending Unit (WIMLU).

WIMLU would always recommend that people who need to borrow money should talk to their local Credit Union about safe and ethical financial products and services.

Change to Annual Membership Fee!

We are changing the way we charge the Celtic Credit Union Annual Membership Fee.

We will no longer be applying an annual charge at the end of March each year.

With effect from 1st January 2021 the Membership Fee will be £0.50 per month and this will be charged on the first business day of each month.

There is no charge for Junior Membership and this will continue to be the case.

These changes will spread a minimal increase in cost over the entire year and enable us to provide improved services to members.

Thank you.

New Branch Opening Press release

Celtic Credit Union’s new Port Talbot branch is as easy to find as 1,2,3

As keyworkers, Celtic Credit Union staff in Port Talbot have gone the extra mile to keep their branch serving members throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, even when it meant opening a new office.

The credit union has moved to 123 Station Road, just a stone’s-throw away from the property it used for the last eight years. While the move had been long-planned and prepared for, it was thrown into chaos by the outbreak of Covid-19.

Celtic Credit Union Business Development Manager Julie Mallinson explained: “Unfortunately the timing of our move from the old office was not ideal but the lease had already been agreed in January when we couldn’t have foreseen the challenging times ahead.”

With the support of Neath Port Talbot Council, the staff of Celtic Credit Union moved into the new branch this week although parts of the refurbishment can’t be completed until restrictions are lifted.

“It wasn’t the smooth journey we had planned, but everyone pulled together and, with support from Tristan Mitchell of Red Dragon IT and Jason Davies of DJ Davies Properties, we’ve successfully managed it,” Julie added.

“I can’t thank the team enough, it’s been a challenging couple of weeks, but we are determined to keep open and serve our members.
“The larger public areas in the new Port Talbot office allow for greater social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, helping us to protect our members and staff much better than the old office allowed.

“We also like our new address because we can tell customers that the range of financial services we offer are as easy to access as 1,2,3!”

Credit Unions are classed as an essential service under UK government guidance during the Coronavirus Pandemic and Celtic Credit Union is maintaining their service from all three offices at Port Talbot, Neath and Swansea although opening hours have been restricted.

For further details visit or call 0333 006 3002.
